Outstanding Instructor Award for Major Workman

After a very challenging and successful year for the Clearfield HS AFJROTC, with numerous state and national awards, the final achievements came to the Senior Aerospace Instructor (SASI) Major Kit Workman. Completing his 16th year in the JROTC program, Maj Workman was recognized as the Utah Air Force Association/Aerospace Education Foundation (AFA/AEF) Teacher of the Year, and was recognized by the Air Force as an Outstanding Instructor/ with merit.

The AFA/AEF recognizes outstanding teachers in the areas of math, science and aerospace. In recognizing Maj Workman, they saw his vision in trying to guide students to raise their individual bars and find their own directions to achievement. In the JROTC program, he teaches, sciences of flight; US history with an emphasis on the role of the military and aviation; and space exploration. He brings subject experts to the classroom, has developed a space station simulator in the room, and seeks innovative ways to reach the wide variety of students in the program. Additionally, he coaches the JROTC Armed Drill Team, the Marksmanship team, and is over the CyberPatriot Team. All three teams are top ranked in the state and are highly visible nationally. The CyberPatriot team was last year's national champions, and finished third in the nation this year. He has also served with the AFA for a number of years, recently finishing his term as Utah State President, and is
now the Regional Vice President for the AEF. He is also the Utah State Vice Presdient for the Son's of the American Revolution, and is a member of Post 134 American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Daedalians, as fraternity of military aviators.

Each year the Air Force recognized 10% of its 1940 instructors. In 2010 the Air Force began recognizing the best of the best as Outstanding Instructors with Merit. This is the seventh Outstanding Instructor Award for Major Workman and his first with Merit.
