CHS JROTC Team Places Third in National High School Cyber Competition

After three grueling online preliminary rounds and nearly six months of preparation, the winners of CyberPatriot III, the nation’s largest high school cyber defense competition, have been announced!

On April 1, the Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot III concluded its two-day national finals at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The Clearfield High School Air Force Junior ROTC team of Clearfield, Utah, placed third in the competition’s All Service Division, each member receiving scholarship money from Northrop Grumman, CyberPatriot’s presenting sponsor, to pursue college or vocational education.

CyberPatriot is a unique competition geared toward teenagers, replicating real life cyber security
situations faced by computer administrators. Created in 2008 by the AFA, a nonprofit organization headquartered near Washington, D.C., CyberPatriot was designed to spark students’ interest in cyber defense and in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) – related studies. It provides students hands-on learning about cyber security while exciting, educating, and motivating them to be the nation’s next cyber defenders.

Led by Coach Kit Workman, the Clearfield High School team was one of the five finalists for the
competition’s All Service Division. This year’s two-track competition had public, private and home schools register in the Open Division, while Junior ROTC units and Civil Air Patrol squadrons filled the All Service Division. In all, more than 660 teams nationwide registered to participate, approximately 475 for the All Service.
