Outstanding Instructor Award for Major Workman

After a very challenging and successful year for the Clearfield HS AFJROTC, with numerous state and national awards, the final achievements came to the Senior Aerospace Instructor (SASI) Major Kit Workman. Completing his 16th year in the JROTC program, Maj Workman was recognized as the Utah Air Force Association/Aerospace Education Foundation (AFA/AEF) Teacher of the Year, and was recognized by the Air Force as an Outstanding Instructor/ with merit.

The AFA/AEF recognizes outstanding teachers in the areas of math, science and aerospace. In recognizing Maj Workman, they saw his vision in trying to guide students to raise their individual bars and find their own directions to achievement. In the JROTC program, he teaches, sciences of flight; US history with an emphasis on the role of the military and aviation; and space exploration. He brings subject experts to the classroom, has developed a space station simulator in the room, and seeks innovative ways to reach the wide variety of students in the program. Additionally, he coaches the JROTC Armed Drill Team, the Marksmanship team, and is over the CyberPatriot Team. All three teams are top ranked in the state and are highly visible nationally. The CyberPatriot team was last year's national champions, and finished third in the nation this year. He has also served with the AFA for a number of years, recently finishing his term as Utah State President, and is
now the Regional Vice President for the AEF. He is also the Utah State Vice Presdient for the Son's of the American Revolution, and is a member of Post 134 American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Daedalians, as fraternity of military aviators.

Each year the Air Force recognized 10% of its 1940 instructors. In 2010 the Air Force began recognizing the best of the best as Outstanding Instructors with Merit. This is the seventh Outstanding Instructor Award for Major Workman and his first with Merit.

50th Anniversary Birthday Celebration

We want to invite all Clearfield High School Alumni and the Community to come and join us at the 50th Anniversary Alumni Assembly on Thursday, April 28th at 8:50 a.m. in the CHS Auditorium.  The students are looking forward to another fun experience with those who have gone before!

This year Clearfield High is celebrating its 50th Anniversary year.  In association with the 50th Year Celebration, the Alumni Committee has developed a four-fold program to help students attending Clearfield High reach a higher potential.  Each student will have the opportunity to see what other Clearfield High graduates have achieved and tap in on the training, tips and techniques by which they have achieved success.

Clearfield High has Five Focused Areas of Study. These career pathways allow student’s flexibility to explore a variety of career Fields, they are: Art, Business and Marketing, Health and Human Services, Industry and Letter and Sciences. This four-fold program will be called the “CHS Hall of Fame” and its purpose is to aid the students as they move into their Focused Areas of Study.

There are four aspects to this program:

Hall of Fame Wall:  This is a wall that features alumni who have been nominated because of their achievements in one of the five Areas of Focus.  This nominee’s picture and biography will be placed on the wall. The first year there will be five nominees, with new one’s added each subsequent year.  The purpose of this wall is to help students visually see the graduates of Clearfield High who have succeeded in these five areas.

Career Kiosk:  The next feature of the Hall of Fame will be a “Career Kiosk.”  We cannot possibly put all those who have been successful on the “Hall of Fame Wall.”   We needed another way to be able to access other alumni’s careers and successes.  To do this, we will plan on adding a kiosk which has a touch screen computer that will access data from alumni according to their achievements in the Five Areas of Focus.  This is another part of the Hall of Fame where we need your support and help.  We are asking as many alumni who feel they have had experience in these fields to send in their “Career Form.”  We will then add their information to the database.  Students can then look up a career path from the Focus Areas and find alumni who have succeeded in their chosen Career Path and find how they did it.  A form will be posted on our webpage where you can print and fill and check the box in which you are willing to be a mentor.

Memorabilia Display Case:  The next feature in the Hall of Fame will be two display cases featuring memorabilia from Clearfield High’s past.  Again, if you have memorabilia that you think would add to this display, we would love to have your donation.

Alumni Scholarship: The last, but possibly the most important part of the Hall of Fame, will be an Alumni Scholarship.  A plaque will be placed in the Hall each year showing who the Alumni Scholarship recipient is.  Our hope is that once a year, the Alumni Association can give at least one scholarship to a college or a trade school to help those who might not otherwise succeed by their own means or academic merits.

CHS JROTC Team Places Third in National High School Cyber Competition

After three grueling online preliminary rounds and nearly six months of preparation, the winners of CyberPatriot III, the nation’s largest high school cyber defense competition, have been announced!

On April 1, the Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot III concluded its two-day national finals at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The Clearfield High School Air Force Junior ROTC team of Clearfield, Utah, placed third in the competition’s All Service Division, each member receiving scholarship money from Northrop Grumman, CyberPatriot’s presenting sponsor, to pursue college or vocational education.

CyberPatriot is a unique competition geared toward teenagers, replicating real life cyber security
situations faced by computer administrators. Created in 2008 by the AFA, a nonprofit organization headquartered near Washington, D.C., CyberPatriot was designed to spark students’ interest in cyber defense and in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) – related studies. It provides students hands-on learning about cyber security while exciting, educating, and motivating them to be the nation’s next cyber defenders.

Led by Coach Kit Workman, the Clearfield High School team was one of the five finalists for the
competition’s All Service Division. This year’s two-track competition had public, private and home schools register in the Open Division, while Junior ROTC units and Civil Air Patrol squadrons filled the All Service Division. In all, more than 660 teams nationwide registered to participate, approximately 475 for the All Service.
